Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a gorgeous Kirk Sterling Silver REPOUSSE footed tray. This nice tray is decorated with a highly hand chased raised floral border in high relief with assorted flowers ad foliage. The flat center area is decorated with an all-over engraved square pattern with fancy leaf garland surrounding a central cartouche for monogram (unused). The tray sits on four hairy claw and ball feet and has great original patina. Marked "S. Kirk & Son Co., 925/1000", 11. This Kirk mark was used from 1896-1924". Measures 1 3/8" high and 11" in diameter. Weighs 640 grams. Tray is in excellent Estate condition with no major flaws reflecting only faint/minor no-harm signs of normal wear in flat center area. The iconic "Repousse" pattern by S. Kirk & Son made its debut in 1828 making it the oldest Sterling Silver pattern produced in the United States where its remained to this day as one of the most popular patterns ever created. To create this pattern, the Philadelphia trained silversmith Samuel Kirk revived an ancient technique known as "repousse" to create an embossed design that is both versatile and instantly recognized.
