Circa 1885 Original Akam Billiard Catalog Mailer; - $299 - (Monroe, NC)

Akam Mfg. Co. was a small company out of Chicago, Ill. They were associated with another company from New York, called Akam and Skinner. They made Billiard tables among other small household products.This is an original mailer shipped to local households around the country. The last date found is 1885, as a brief note to the company, thanking them for their quality parlor table. There is a brief story on the last photo, explaining that Akam is interested in the Temperance movement of this period, and wanting to help keep husbands and sons away from pool halls and still be able to enjoy the game of pool/billiards without the stereotypical atmosphere of most pool halls. Please notice that the legs on several of the tables are similar to that of elephant trunks(Since many balls are made of ivory at this time.)The paper is quite fragile and remarkably in good condition. I only see one 1/4" tear on a center crease.This is truly a rare and nice billiard collectible from the 19th century.It is all in black and white.Please see photos.
