Antique Georgian Earrings. 10k and 14k Gold and natural pearls. Made in Calabria Italy circa 1820. Measurements: Length, excluding the wires is a little over 3inches (8cm). Weigh 22.50 grams. Very long big pair of ear pendants / pendeloque earrings. 14k gold wires suspend w spinning wheel flower form surmount with concentric rings of pearls in various sizes and a pair of seed pearls suspended from loops on either side, like little swinging arms that sway as the wearer moves. The surmount in turn suspends a long torpedo-shaped drop that swings independantly of the surmount as the wearer moves. The upper section is made entirely of gold in the form of a cone with a twisted gold wire encircling it in a spiral. The top of the cone is set with a small pearl. Beneath this a large oval cluster of pearls, fully 3-dimentional looks like a fruit about to burst. It ends at the bottom of the earrings with an inverted gold bowl, bordered by the same twisted gold wire that is used on the upper section. Another link connects to another small seed pearl. Fabulous long pearl earrings were made in Italy during the Georgian era. This pair is from Calabria (southern Italy) and I was told that they were known as 'Nanny earrings', but I could not find any information on this topic. This particular pair of earrings is head and shoulders above most of the earrings of this sort - both because of the workmanship and because of the size of many of the pearls. They are easy to insert and would be perfect for a bride on her wedding day. Page 64 of the book on Earrings by Daniela Mascetti and Amanda Triossi shows a full page picture of a pair of earrings very similar to this pair. "A pair of spectacular Southern Italian gold and seed earl pendant earrings...". Marks: the wires are hallmarked - please see pictures. Gold was tested to ensure metal purity. Wires are 14k and gold mounts are 10k. Condition: good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged 'photos and do not hesitate…
