Thorens TD-111 single speed with TD-124 motor & Thorens/Rega arm - $997 - (Burnsville, MN)
My first large scale upgrade project was a Thorens TD-111 and that project is listed on the Vinyl Engine. I did several other upgrades that are on the VE. After the other big TD-111 project I wanted to make a more modern looking version. If you are looking for the big dynamic sound of an idler drive and want the quality of a Thorens but can’t afford a TD-124… this may be the table for you. The TD-111 shares the same motor and many of the parts that the 124 has, but is is a single speed deck (33) and has a stamped top (not cast). This one has been upgraded in every way possible, it has a new bearing and heavy brass thrust plate, new power cable, our special metal loaded plastic damping (which makes it much more rigid) and a nice heavy custom plinth. The motor was rebuilt and has new oil- it runs quiet and true. The platter also has our metal loaded plastic on the under side with a deer skin mat on top, this is one quiet, musical turntable. The arm was hard to find, it is a Thorens branded Rega RB-250 that comes with two “heavy weights”- the underslung counterweights that make Rega’s sound so good, the arm was cryo treated and rewired, comes with VTA adjusting nut in addition to the mounting nut. The paint is in excellent shape and the plinth has real rosewood veneer, it features a beautiful solid rosewood armboard, the top of the plinth is durable Formica – the table looks stunning.
