This coat was Handmade to order by Jon Soule in England. It features real Gold Braid, custom wool and brass buttons all made to the correct historical dimensions. This Surgeon Coat is Museum Quality.. Measurements: Arm Pit to Arm Pit = 28” Arm Pit to Cuff = 18” Collar to Bottom of Coat = 36” Weight = 7lbs King Louis commissioned the production of these coats somewhere in the late 1750’s. They were produced “to equip the military surgeons with a recognizable particular uniform by all which was to protect them from blending in with the other army rabble“ (letter July 15,1757). The uniforms were “delivered by Andrieu to the Arsenal of Paris where distribution was a problem. In the current state of our research we do not have any other part to illustrate this discovery which delays 16 years the date of attribution of the uniform to the army medical officers. It is probable that the methods of clothes industry in distribution new the same vicissitudes as those of the surgeons.
