This 105-year-old horn is built in extra large bore (.484") and has a bell diameter of 4 1/2". It plays in Bb with a pull slide which puts the horn in A. This horn is in fabulously good condition or its age, and plays beautifully. This horn is has its original gold plated finish, which is in very good condition. The main tuning slide is marked “LP” for low pitch. The bell engraving reads: “MADE BY/ C.G. CONN / ELKHART/ -IND-.” The second valve casing, in addition to the serial number, has “UNION/ MPBP/ B&SW/ LABEL” and “PAT.APRIL/ 2.1907” stamped on it. The valves move well and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a few minuscule pings and nicks as well as a few areas of light scratching. The gold plate on the horn is in overall very good condition, with some small areas on the horn where the gold plate has worn through to the silver beneath. There is one place on the pull slide and another on the knuckle entering the valve cluster where the gold has been worn through. There is one collar on the main tuning slide. The stop nuts on the pull to A rod have been replaced. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn comes with a mouthpiece in good condition and a somewhat worn hardshell case.
