Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. For more information about our business, please feel free to visit our Ebay Profile at http://www.ebay.com/usr/silver_brass_music Here is a 1930 Conn 24B "Opera Grand" trumpet (Serial Number 275722). The bore of the horn is .438" (Conn #1 "medium" bore). The bell is 4 1/2". In spite of the name of the horn (Opera Grand) this horn was intended to sizzle in a small jazz combo situation. Here is what Conn said in their catalog at the time: "This model is built with a small bore and is known as the 24B. It was built especially for "jazz" or ball-room orchestras, and has proven its value for this character of music most successfully. It possesses a stinging, yet musical quality of tone and unusual carrying power. From the time this trumpet was placed on the market, it met with success and swept all other "jazz" behind it. It is extremely easy playing and is particularly noted for this feature. We do not recommend the Opera Grand for symphonic or concert engagements." This horn looks very nice and plays very well. The valves have good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a few minute dings on the horn as well as some areas of missing silver plate from regular use. The bell engraving is in excellent shape, and the text of the engraving reads: “MADE BY/ C.G. CONN LTD/ ELKHART-IND./ U.S.A.” All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This trumpet comes with a somewhat worn leather case and its original mouthpiece in good condition. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop 710 N. Curry St. Carson City, NV89703(775) 691-9737
