The bore of the horn is medium at .438" (Conn #1 bore). The bell is 4 1/2". Here is what Conn said in their catalogs at the time: "The New York Symphony Special trumpet is remarkable for its amazing trumpet tone. As one great symphony player said, "It is the closest equivalent to vocal perfection I have ever experienced. Its tone sings, not penetrates, above the orchestra." Here is trumpet performance that will thrill the most experienced trumpet player. Needless to say with reference to such an instrument, the intonation, response, workmanship, and valve action are the last word. Third valve slide has extra long pull for getting pedal F." This horn looks beautiful, but with one important caveat--at some point in the 1960s or 1970s the horn was refinished, and during that process the engraving on the bell was nearly removed and the writing on the mouthpiece receiver was almost completely eliminated. This is a shame, but the horn was not otherwise badly affected. This trumpet plays very well. The valves have good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are a few small dings and pings as well as some light scratching, pitting, and etching. There are two reinforcing patches/guards on the instrument, one on the knuckle going into the valve casing from the leadpipe and one on the knuckle going out of the valve casing to the bell. The second slide also has a reinforcing patch. The text of the engraving reads "C G Conn Ltd/ USA/ Elkhart-IND".
