Vintage 1921 Conn New Wonder Gold Plated Cornet w/ Engraving - $600 - (Ann Arbor, MI)

Here is a very nice Conn New Wonder cornet. The serial number 179369 would date this one to 1921 and there's a * after the serial number showing that this was a special order. The bell inscription reads: Victor, New Wonder, C.G. Conn LTD, Elkhart, Ind. It has a nice floral and leaf engraving all down the bell stem. The gold plating is in very good condition. There are a couple of small spots where the left and right thumb would have touched and on the 2nd valve slide. There are some small dings in the leadpipe. There's a dent in the top of the 2nd valve crook. There are some shallow flat spots on the back of the bell bow and a dent in one of the knuckles between the valves. There are a few other small dings and nicks lurking here and there. The flare has some slight evidence of a wrinkle and some small nicks. All the slides pull easily and the valves are smooth and fast. The pistons are solid nickel silver, not plated and there's some of the typical patina on them. The original case is in solid condition. The handle is missing but the loops are still there for a replacement. A beautiful instrument!
