1.5m (60") f/3.75 ZERODUR Research Grade Observatory Telescope Mirror 1.5m (60") f/3.75 ZERODUR Research Grade, Observatory Telescope Mirror We are pleased to be able to offer one very special, very large telescope mirror. This is your chance to buy and own a research class 1.5 meter (60 inch) F/3.75 ZERODUR mirror. This optic came out of the aerospace industry. It was figured and polished, then had a protective coating painted over it before being mothballed (mirror may either be parabolic or hyperbolic and will need to be tested since we're not sure of the telescope configuration this was made for). Considering the source (which we will share with the buyer once purchased), we suspect that it was a backup mirror used for high altitude astronomy but never flew since it is without coating. However, we cannot prove this. It is merely speculation. Being of substantial thickness, 8", and weighing in at roughly 2,000 lbs, a very heavy and rigid structure will be required to support its mass properly. That said, this opportunity is targeted to research institutes, universities and the most discriminating of amateur astronomers / clubs with the means to incorporate this optic into a research class observatory. Alternately, this would provide a lot of substrate material for an optics shop to core, slice and make flats from... A lot!
