Offered here for your consideration is a large and very fine enameled glass casket or glove box. Typical of the enamel treatments by Ludwig Moser and reminiscent of Baccarat's Japonisme works. Likely Bohemian, the blue glass box is mounted in a gilt bronze frame with bamboo inspired feet. It is decorated with enameled Japanese figures seated on rugs surrounded by birds and foliage. The female figure balances a bird on her finger, and the male figure is smoking a pipe. There are additional miniature gilded scenes and enameled decoration around the perimeter of the box. A truly exceptional casket with a very rare subject matter. It dates to the mid to late 19th century. It is in overall good, as-pictured used estate condition with minor rubbing to the gold, some very fine and light surface scratches here and there, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
