Antique Tuareg Tribe Big Zinder Cross Tenalit Ethnic Pendant Amulet Ring Size 4 - $75 - (Williams, OR)
These authentic Tuareg cross pendants or rings are called tenelit which means a small amount of millet which was their trade value among the tribal people. They are also referred to as a Zinder ring or Zinder cross as this cross design represents the Saharan Desert town of Zinder in Niger and also to the nomadic Tuareg people this cross symbolizes the four cardinal points of direction. These Zinder rings are worn by the Tuareg as finger rings, strung on necklaces as amulets and woven into the hair as ornaments and function as talismans for physical and spiritual protection from supernatural forces they believe reside in the Saharan desert where they live. These rings also represent the unity and natural balance between the male and female with the pointed tip of the ring being the male phallic symbol and the circular part of the ring being the female yonic symbol together representing the union between male and female and the prayer of creation and joining together for the perfect balance of survival. Because of this some collectors consider these to be 'love' rings. This very large antique ring was made by Tuareg metalsmiths of Niger and is a ring size 4 and measures 2.68 inches long by 1.02 inches wide. Great antique tribally made and used condition with a worn down edge on the ring band on one side next to the finger hole which is labeled in the last photo. This Tuareg ring is very collectible and would be perfect for adding to your African tribal jewelry collection or for making a beautiful necklace.
