Aboriginal storyboard carved wood object 1970’s Pintubi designs - $495 - (Blind River, ON)

Australian Aboriginal men have been making these objects for centuries. The old men taught their Dreamings to the younger members of the tribe in order to give them portable maps, title deeds and secret information to help, with their long term desert survival.Made from wood and darkened with red ochre, this one is very reminiscent of Pintupi acrylic painting and clearly illustrates the connection between the two.Comes from a private collection in Melbourne Measures 42 x 7 cm ( 16.5 “x 2.75”). Wood.Several emu prints are camouflaged amongst the dots. This is a serious story as the emu Dreaming predominantly belongs to the women, a few men painted it but generally it is regarded as a women’s story and is related to the bushfire.
