Lots of info out there on this maker.... He seems to have been employed at one time by Wilhelm Heckel and parted, for some reason, with a cloud over his head. I've seen about 6 or 8 by this maker, have had two in our shop. This instrument came to us in actually very good original condition, without whisper key, without high D and without E to F# trill. These three keys were added recently by Bernd Moosmann, in Germany. Two crooks come with the instrument, both from the same time period. One's brass, Mollenhauer #2, the other by Moennig, perhaps a bit more recent. With the Mollenhauer crook, the bassoon plays well at 440 or a shade below. If you're planning on playing at 440, you'll need a #1, perhaps a #Zero bocal. Our shop's replaced all pads and corks, and if you're curious about the sound, do a Youtube search for Lange bassoon: you'll be able to hear the same instrument being played. Caution, though: our bassoon is from about 1900, not (as shown) 1925. In January of 2018, our small workshop in Wichita celebrated sixty-five years in business. We are not in the 1952 Wichita telephone directory, but we ARE in the 1953.
