17TH CENTURY JAPANESE SAMURAI ARMORED LEFT SLEEVE - $495 - (Philipsburg, PA)
E006P, Part of a suit of Samurai armor, about 17th century. Retains all chain mail, all interlocking plates, all fabrics, laces and much original lacquered surfaces, even thumb and fore finger loops intact. A truly fascinating specimen and a must for any Japanese collection. The steel plates are made from old retired and ruined sword blades and have remarkable strength for their light weight. They were the only defense against a good and sharp sword slashing, which would relieve them of the need to carry shields and perhaps even to fight 2 handed. 30" long overall, can be handled without coming apart from its age, or rot. Exquisite designs in the brocaded fabric, well preserve specimen, all original, ship weight 4 pounds.
