Antique Burl Walnut Carpenter's and Joiner's Workbench Nice Style - $5,000 - (Lehighton, PA)
We have a vintage workbench in very good shape. I have had a few of these over the years but this one is by far the most exceptional. The main bed, front legs and supports, vises and the center adjustable rest are all made of walnut. Much of it is burl grain. The secondary wood for the base is oak and the tool tray area is pine. There are several stylistic touches to this bench that accent the beautiful design. The face vise is decorated with scalloped cuts top and bottom. Also the tail vise has a nice contoured design. Both vises use wood screws in good shape. The tail vise is dovetailed construction and made of walnut. The center support for face vise planning work has a large assortment of holes arranged in an arched pattern. This support is keyed into the bench top and the lower front stringer allowing it to slide to any position. The main beam of the bench is walnut and sized at 11 1/2" wide by 3 1/2" thick. The finish is original. I got this at a huge estate tool sale in Bucks County PA around 1993. I have never used it. Size is 10 feet long, 31 inches deep and 31 inches tall. While in excellent shape, it is not perfect. You can see the adjustment bar at the base of the face vice is chipped. Also, the retaining pin that holds the tail vise screw to the tail vise housing needs replacement. The original is worn. Beyond that, there are the expected chips and cuts from use. This is very heavy. I can not ship this. It is worth a trip to pick it up if you live in the eastern US. Located in Lehighton, PA 18235 I would prefer payment in cash at pickup.
