King Edward VIII stamp collection commemorating his December 10, 1936 abdication as King. DESCRIPTION:The Edward VIII postage stamps are a definitive stamp series issued in the United Kingdom during the January 20th to December 11th 1936 reign of King Edward VIII. The collection is displayed in a brochure containing a facsimile of King Edward's "Instrument of Abdication" text and a transcription of his December 11, 1936 radio farewell speech. Includes original envelope with photo montage attributed to (c) Underwood. ABOUT THE BROCHURE CREATOR: Malcolm C. Dizer (1886-1978) was a British-American philatelist who assembled a number of specialized postage stamp collections under the general topic of "History in Philately". They are an excellent example of the use of postage stamps to preserve collective memory. Before the war, Dizer had begun to send handmade Christmas cards to his friends. For 1936, he included a set of stamps depicting King Edward VIII and his abdication message. This brochure was the beginning of the "History in Philately" series. Malcolm Dizer's "History in Philately" series was a labor of love, and must have put him to considerable expense.
