Twisti was surrendered to the shelter due to the owner''s daughter''s allergies. The previous owners stated that he is 3yrs old, which if true, makes him a rather elderly hamster, since the upper end of a hamster''s lifespan tends to be 3.5-4yrs old. Twisti appears to still be going strong and is a fairly sociable example of his breed, although he may still react poorly if handled roughly or touched suddenly. Hamsters are nocturnal, so the best time to handle them is when they are awake in the evenings. Gentle, careful handling can encourage Twisti to be a nice pet! Twisti''s former owner stated that he is an escape artist, so his new family will need to make sure that he is safely and effectively contained.
