You are purchasing a rare 1st Edition copy of Robert H. Kellogg's (Sergeant-Major, 16th Regiment Connecticut Volunteers) LIFE AND DEATH IN REBEL PRISONS: GIVING A COMPLETE HISTORY OF THE INHUMAN AND BARBAROUS TREATMENT OF OUR BRAVE SOLDIERS BY REBEL AUTHORITIES, INFLICTING TERRIBLE SUFFERING AND FRIGHTFUL MORTALITY, PRINCIPALLY AT ANDERSONVILLE, GA., AND FLORENCE, S.C. It also provides plans of escape, arrival of prisoners, with numerous and varied incidents and anecdotes of prison life. The source for this book was his daily journal while imprisoned. This 400 page book was published in 1865 by L. Stebbins, Hartford, CT. This volume is in Poor Condition (see photos). There is extensive wear to the spine and it appears to have had water damage at some point in its 152 year existence. The pages are intact and complete. The front and back covers are cracked, but holding. You would not be buying this volume for aesthetic display. You are purchasing a first person account of the horrors our country experienced during the most defining period of our history. After reading Mr. Kellogg's account, you will realize you are holding a historical document, with its detailed descriptions, sights, sounds, and smells.
