BRISTOL blown glass RUFFLE hand painted TALL VASE Victorian era rough pontil - $12 - (Nevada, IA)
Offered for sale is a beautiful antique Bristol glass vase with a hand painted floral design in shades of blue and yellow. It is made of very thin, fragile white glass, with a flared double ruffle edge at the top. It is hand blown, and has a rough pontil at the bottom (picture 3). Its origin is unknown. More knowledgeable people than I have informed me that many Bristol glass vases in the late 1800s were not actually made in Bristol, England, but were imported from what is now the Czech republic (then Bohemia or Czechoslovakia). This is very likely one of them. The vase stands 11 1/2 inches (29.2cm) tall to the flared and ruffled rim. A U.S. quarter is shown in picture two, to give an accurate impression of the size at a glance. It is in good but not perfect condition, with no chips or cracks. There is some wear and chipped paint on the floral design, and the inside of the vase has lime scale that needs a good cleaning. It is very thin and fragile, and will be packed securely for shipping. This results in a heavier package and higher postage costs, but it also means the item is far more likely to arrive intact. All my items are from a SMOKE FREE home.
