Manolo Valdes, Original Drawing/collage in a Gallery Catalog - $9,950 - (Altamonte Springs, FL)
The drawing/collage appears on the frontispiece of a gallery catalogue - Galeria Marlborough, Orfilo, 5, 28010 Madrid. The exhibition: Manolo Valdes, Pintura y Escultura, 8 Noviembre - 23 Diciembre, 1995. The catalog is in excellent condition throughout. The covers show the two wall-to-ceiling panels of book shelves, complete with books, constructed from carved rough wooden blocks glued together. The drawing/collage on the frontispiece represents a theme used by Valdes in other works; that of pasting photographs and doing a drawing to complete the scene of a group of flowers in a vase with handle. (see photo #7 from a similar original with two flowers from New River Gallery, Ft. Lauderdale, FL). Attempts to authenticate the signature was undertaken in 2013, with the Marlborough Gallery in New York. Those attempts were stonewalled, and although they said they contacted the artist, perhaps it was the personal nature of the inscription that it was not followed through. There are four other signatures in the photo section taken from his other works that compare quite favorably with this drawing. The seller makes no guarantee that the signature is authentic, and that responsibility rests with the buyer.
