ANTIQUE FEDERAL PERIOD EAGLE CONVEX MIRROR CARVED GILTWOOD LION MONUMENTAL 1840 - $3,200 - (Baton Rouge, LA)
Presented for bid today from my personal collection is a monumental antique circa 1840 Federal Period Eagle Convex Mirror in carved gilt wood frame featuring a magnificent eagle on rock mountain with ribbon in his beak flanked by laurel leaves and the bottom has a splendid carved lion....all as shown in the photos. The overall measurements...approximately 51” tall, 27” wide, 3” thick; the convex mirror is approximately 17” in diameter. I believe the mirror has been replaced at sometime in the past as it projects a very clear image...this was done sometime before I purchased it over 10 years ago at a plantation auction estate. The wood back was removed at that time. It appears that the gold gilt was touched up, also many years ago, and there are a few chips in the carved gesso.
