ANTIQUE CHIPPENDALE STYLE CAMEL-BACK SOFA/SETTEE GOLD SILK NEEDS SOME WORK - $950 - (New Fairfield, CT)
This small CHIPPENDALE style sofa/settee came to us from a family member's estate and we wish we could find the right place for it. It was made in Philadelphia and was acquired by our relatives when they married in 1936. Perhaps it was from KITTINGER but there is no label. The fabric is a lovely patterned gold silk although our photos seem to show it as beige. The last photo is from a book about antique furniture and we include this so you can see a color that is very much like ours. The style is similar but it is not the extreme camel-back shown in the photo and ours is a softer shade of gold. Our sofa/settee has a mahogany frame with straight legs and an arched back. Over the years it was well loved and in use pretty much all the time. Now it needs a repair to the left arm (see photo 5) and the cushion needs to be redone as well (see photo 2). In turning it over to photograph the back we noticed that one of the legs has come apart from the stretcher so that will have to be reconnected which does not look like a big job. We have covered it with a pretty throw as we used it for a while, and we hoped to have it reupholstered as soon as we decided where it should be placed and what our color scheme was going to be. We would have loved to use the same elegant fabric if we could find it. However, our list of priorities has changed and we have decided to find a new home for this lovely antique. Here are a few measurements: The width across the top is 51 inches and it is 35 inches tall at the center, 30 inches tall at the arm. The length of the arm is 22 inches and the depth of the seat cushion is 22 inches. Hope that info is helpful.
