Large Old Eskimo Yupik Inuit Greenland Tupilak authentic carving - $500 - (Coeur D'alene, ID)

Tupilaks were avenging creatures, conjured by Shaman's of ancient Greenland. Early Tupilaks were composed of hide, bone and even human hair similar to Voodoo dolls. By the late 19th century the Tupilak was carved primarily from tooth by a number of Arctic cultures as a tourist or trade item. This is an early 20th century version from Greenland (more humorous than avenging), very well done with good size. 4.5". Repair to the legs, does not detract appearance.
