Avenue and Eleventh Street, Washington, D.C.” ————————————————————- Description: 16 (Sixteen) loose individual engravings as issued, with remnants of original envelope which contained them, pasted to inside front cover. Each engraving printed on heavy coated card stock, glossy versos (surfaces); each engraving set within an ornate border. Period fabric/canvas cloth binding, gilt title, detailed floral patterned embossed boards. Measures 6" x 4 3/4." AGE: circa 1850’s LIST OF CARD IMAGES: -U.S. Capitol -Naval Monument -Mount Vernon -U.S. Navy Yard -Military Asylum -Columbia Armory -Gen. Washington’s National Monument -National Observatory -Willard's Hotel -Gen. Jackson's National Monument -The President's House -U.S. Patent Office -Tomb of Washington -U.S. General Post Office -Lunatic Asylum -Congressional Cemetery. CONDITION: Good (considering its age); gently worn, lightly rubbed but remaining sound & attractive. Individual prints are clean & well preserved. Some of the edges of each print are very lightly soiled. (see photos). ISSUES: the Mount Vernon card has a very small nick on the top, LH corner (see photos), and Tomb of Washington card has some minor wear in the glossy coating, on the bottom corners (see photos). SPECIAL NOTE: after several hours of online searching, I was only able to locate only two copies of this book, that were listed for sale with antiquarian book dealers.
