Offered here is an original oil painting by midwest artist Herman Peterson, circa 1930s or '40s. Painting is oil on masonite board and is signed lower left. The painting size is 24 x 28 inches and the overall framed size is ~31 1/2 x 35 1/2 inches. I found many examples online of Peterson's work and this is the best I have seen. This painting is in excellent condition. Includes a really nice vintage wood frame with gold-leaf finish. Frame is in very good condition. ------------------------------------------ Herman Peterson (1892-1969) Herman Peterson was a 20th century portrait and impressionist landscape painter from Winnetka, Illinois. He was a graduate of Valparaiso (Indiana) University and worked in the Chicago area. He also did architectural renderings for Chicago architectural companies. He was commissioned by the U.S. Navy to do twelve portraits of famous U.S. naval heroes. Some of these paintings are in U.S. Naval Museum, Washington, D.C. and U.S. Naval Shipyards, Washington, D.C. He also painted several portraits of Northwestern University Professors including the wife of the NWU president, and also painted portraits of well-known corporate presidents and others. Peterson painted landscapes of Starved Rock State Park, Winnetka; the Indiana Sand Dunes; Beach of Great Lakes, and other Illinois/Indiana/ Wisconsin country/farm scenes.
