* * * * NEVER MONOGRAMMED - PROBABLY AMERICAN * * * * For sale is an antique solid sterling silver SAMOVAR, a tea, coffee or hot water urn. This SAMOVAR is 18-3/4" tall by 9" across; a square formed base with ball feet 5-1/4 by 5-1/4": THIS SAMOVAR WEIGHS A HEFTY 2,655 GRAMS The elevated urn shape is a natural vehicle for Neoclassical expression, decorated with 'bright cut' engraving and beaded borders. Complete with delicate engraved swags and garlands, lots of floral foliate, curved handles and an urn shaped finial - all with strictly symmetrical composition in the manner of Robert Adam. No maker's mark was found, but probably American made. Clearly marked STERLING SILVER on the bottom. In excellent used condition, heavy wall thickness prevented dings and dents. One ball foot has a dent and another is a replacement, otherwise in very nice shape. Never monogrammed.
