Antique Swiss ALD Dennison Presentation Pocket Watch 50mm UK 1926 General Strike - $389 - (Whitehall, NY)

Hi quality gold plated Swiss pocket watch 50mm in diameter. Watch dial and movement are unsigned but movement appears to be an early 15 jewel Movado/Ditisheim. Movement is very clean and is keeping time. Very nice dial is free of hairlines and other defects. Hands are very well done too. Watch is running well, keeping time in both face up and pendant up positions and is ready to wear. Watch has some interesting provenance as it was presented to Henry Fowles (not a person of note) for his service during the General Strike in 1926. Ordinary middle class persons were recruited during the general strike to provide essential transport and other services since there were nearly 2 million workers involved. The strike ended after 10 days but as a result sympathy strikes were banned in the UK. The ban was recently re-enacted by Prime Minister Thatcher in the 1980s.
