18th Century Meissen porcelain PUG dog walking stick cane handle - $2,750 - (West Brookfield, MA)
Without doubt the rarest and most unusual Meissen porcelain walking stick or cane top handle in the entire Margaret Strong collection. This outstanding handle features a large Pug dog head on one end with intricate Military scenes painted on the top and sides. There is only 5" of the original cane left on this-the rest was sawn off. There is a chip behind the right hand Pug ear. There is a name on the fold fill collar that looks like an early hallmark stamp that might read Belcox-I can provide a photo of this on request. The handle itself measures 2 1/8" tall by 5" long and dates to around the last quarter of the 18th Century. One virtually identical to this with a gold band sold in Christies for $12,500 about 8 years ago.
