U.S.Navy CV89A (Part of AN/URA-8A) Teletype Demodulator Converter Modem w/Scope - $179 - (Baton Rouge, LA)
For Sale: A US Navy CV89A Teletype Demodulator Converter designed for direct audio (signal) input. This was the US Navy's first "audio data modem". It is a robust demodulator offering 24 x 7 coverage and It is very easy to service as well as set up use. However, it is heavy and buyer should make rack handle/bracket "ears" to anchor it down into a cabinet or relay rack. The unit is designed to pull out and then flip up to reveal the chasis area or flip down to reveal the tube layout. It uses (not supplied) MS style connectors available at most electronic part dealerships such as Allied or Newark to name but two. Tubes are the easy to find 12AT7/12AX7 types. The CRT is a common tube and replacement is usually easy to find. No cables are supplied but a full copy of the US Navy URA8A manual comes with it which details, among other components, the CV89A. This uses 7 pin glass to metal tubes (vacuum tubes) and may have an octal or two, I cannot remember now. You will need access to a tube tester and should have an incircuit capacitor tester available to check, at a minimum, the power supply caps. These are very good modems and once serviced will provide reliable support. It comes with the rear cooling fan which is usually missing. This is a good companion for the SP600, R390A or similar tube radio. Condition: Excellent physical condtion. Unit is sold untested and requiring proper servicing. Buyer should be experienced in RTTY to get the most out of this unit. Sold as described but strictly as is. Please study the photos and ask any questions now. Terms: The sale includes one CV89A, one original cooling fan, one complete copy of the military operation and service manual.. This package is sold as described but strictly as is. Shipping: We are estimating the shipping. Shipping cost includes a double-wall heavy duty box purchased to ship this safely. Teletype Enthusiasts: The best way to support the teletype interests of amateur radio is to put a RTTY or AFSK or FSK signal
