Vintage 1970s Mod Kids Novelty Curtains ZOO ANIMALS Fabric Print Children' Decor - $19 - (Royal Oak, MI)
I came across a collection of Mid Century aprons, curtains plus fabric fresh off the bolt and found folded in the original dime store bags. These two panels of vivid & happy novelty print curtains (as told to me when found) hung in a young boys room in the early 70s for a short bit until it became 'too young for him". The pair has been stored in a hope chest for decades. They are made from a lightweight fabric (cotton blend?). There are some seams that have loosened a bit/ unraveled (for example ; see photo 7 for the weaker areas and photo 8 & 9 for more examples of the edges). Each bottom corner of the curtains have a weight sewn inside. I have shown this in photo collage #10. Zoo animals decorate the light background with flowers / foliage sprinkled throughout the illustration : elephants, lions, toucans, hippos, giraffes, etc... Condition is very good. I can find no rips/tears . There is a discoloration on the green elephant shown in pic #11. There is one small spot shown in the last photo. Possibly a little berry stain? The curtains have NOT been laundered. They have been hung outside for an afternoon after they were rescued. With that said, they could use a wash before hanging. Truly cute curtains for that special window that you have been needing to fill! ?? All of the fabric from this lot was stored for years in a chest layered between cotton pillowcases. As mentioned above, some was still in original bags. With this said, all of the fabric will need to be freshened before use. Each panel measures approx. 40 1/2" x 40 1/2".
