Up for sale is a Holton branded Yamaha YBB103 tuba in great playing shape! This horn does show signs of repairs including dent removal, and several re-done solders. It appears as if it received a rather in depth overhaul at some point, but all the newer looking solder joints look well done and very solid! Yamaha made these horns for the Holton company to rebrand/resell. This horn is stamped "made in Japan" and was built right along side the Yamaha stamped ones.This horn is virtually identical to the Yamaha branded 103's, with the only differences being cosmetic.The laquer on this Holton horn has more of an "orangey" tint to it than the several Yamaha branded 103's that I've seen, but it is original!The model number that Holton sold this as was BB661R, which is stamped on the mouthpiece receiver. This particular horn is from an earlier production run, which means that it has the rare built in metal valves guides!All of the 103 horns that yamaha made in their later production had cheaper plastic valve guide washers. The 103/BB661R models were classified as a 3/4 size horn, and were manufactured in the 1970's-80's, from Japan! The YBB 103/BB661R was one of Yamaha's first, and most popular tuba models, featuring 3 front action piston valves, a 14.5 inch upright bell, and a compact design that produces a great sound for its weight class (about 13 Lbs) This horn does show signs of some dent removal, and some re-done solder joints as pictured, but that said, it still looks great overall and has tons of music left in it! All valves have been oiled and move smooth and quick!All slides have been cleaned then greased, and can be pulled easily by hand!All solder joints appear rock solid! With a few touch ups as pictured. Laquor finish shows wear consistent with its age, and several areas are worn down to the bare brass.At least 60% of the original laquer is in tact, and the horn still looks good overall!Minor dings, dents, scuffs, scratches and bends throughout as pictured, …
