The horn has a slide bore of .547" and the bell measures 9". This instrument plays very well. The valve works very well, and has good compression. The slide moves reasonably well and is quite playable, but it has a few imperfections that could be addressed. If you are highly particular about your slide you will want to have these corrected. The stockings are in excellent condition and the slide has good compression. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few small dings and pings as well as some isolated areas of light pitting, etching, and scratching. The threaded ring that attaches the slide to the bell has been replaced and does not cover all of the male threads on the bell side of the receiver, but it functions just fine. The bell engraving reads: “KING/ 5B/ SYMPHONY/ KING MUSICAL/ INSTRUMENTS/ U.S.A.” This horn is not lacquered; therefore, fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina.
