Antique carved Black Forest card press w/two figural holders for dice as Beehive - $635 - (Troy, OH)

Rare ca. 1900 (or earlier) hand carved Black Forest antique figural card press. The card press itself is part of a little roofed structure, which I believe is intended to be a covered well. On either side are beautifully carved lidded beehives, or bee skeps, with porcelain liners. At first I thought perhaps they could be inkwells, but more likely are holders for dice, etc. Collectors will no doubt know what their purpose is. The scene is surrounded by a fence standing on a base with lovely carved detailing. Detailed carving is beautiful throughout. Base measures 6 1/4" by 9 5/8". Overall height is 8 1/2" when turning mechanism on top is fully closed. I can't stress enough the lovely detail of the carving. Completely made of wood, except for the porcelain inserts which are glued in place and not removable. Very good original condition.
