A Very rare, old and important sculpture from the Touka , a Senufo peoples, Cote D'Ivoire, Africa. Carved wooden sculpture of a female with heavy incised linear designs and a very well handled surface patina on old dry light wood , obvious age when holding the sculpture. You can feel the hands of man over generations has worn the sculpture smooth and the wood is quite old. Estimated at late 19th century or early 20th century. The image is of a female carrying a large vessel or burden and a staff, signifying her role as an important member of the tribe. Objects from the Touka peoples are seldom seen on the market, and the provenance is first rate. *Previously in the collection of Dr John and Nicole Dintenfass, New York *Previously in the collection of Fily Keita, noted African Art dealer.
