This is the rare Macchi-Castoldi 72 racing airplane made in Italy by Edison Giocattoli S.p.A. The scale 1/84 and is made of diecast Metal. The Malachi-Castoldi 72 was one of several limited production, diecast aircraft made in Italy by Edison. This airplane has moveable ailerons and rear stabilizer surfaces. Includes original clear plastic display case. This airplane was designed by Mario Castoldi to compete in the SchneiderTrophy competition. The 72 later held the world speed record for 5 years and on October 23,1934 set the world speed record for piston engine-powered seaplanes of 441 mph. This speed record still stands today. I have owned this scale aircraft for 20 years and have never removed the plane from its cradle until.I took these photos. The detail on this model is exact and the finish is immaculate. It looks like brand new. This is the first time offered for sale from my personal collection of 11 different Edison Giocattoli scale aircraft. This is Edison Giocattoli’s model number 1202 and is one of their “Records in the Sky” Series of historical diecast aircraft.
