This unique 16th century Afghan hardwood cased Apothecary Mortar + Pestle is gracefully shaped into an oblong boat form to pack flat in a camels saddle bag. It is a nomadic Apothecary for grinding herbs, dragon bones, (fossils), and prescriptions. The Mortar is a boat of hard red Jasper, The Pestle is brown Chalcedony perfectly fitting inside from 500 years of use. The tarnished bronze hardware hinges and folding handles work well but the lock on the front is missing.This solid expertly crafted artifact weighs 16.6 lbs. It is 16" long 8" wide and 7" high. This Heirloom has undoubtedly seen many expeditions traveling the Silk and Jade Roads of the Himalayas. If it could only tell of the many cures it has formulated in those harsh times and terrains.
