Welcome to the Squirrel Hill Reed Shop! This is a listing for 1 handmade, professional-quality oboe reed. It is made with the Mack-Pfeiffer shape and Ross gouge. We guarantee a high-level of consistency and quality as we carefully hand-select and process the cane, and all scraping is done by hand. Great care is taken in the making of the reed, and every reed produces a stable, balanced sound. Reeds are generally made to a medium strength--however, if you prefer a significantly softer or harder strength, please let us know. Our price may seem high compared to the cheaper, mass-produced reeds, but with the higher price comes a higher quality guarantee. At our shop, we DO NOT use profiling machines, wire, or fishskin in the creation of our reeds. Other companies use such methods to compensate for flaws in the reed-making process, such as generic, unpersonalized scraping and structural leaking. Those mass-produced reeds have short lifespans and create bad playing habits that last for years.
