VINTAGE FANCY BRASS CAPE COD LIGHTER FIREPLACE FIRE STARTER Up for auction is this vintage Cape Cod lighter, a brass firepot, that stores fuel such as kerosene or lamp oil right at your hearth. The pumice stone on a long iron wand is soaked in the fuel. When ready to light your fire, place the saturated wand under the logs and light the pumice stone with a match. The stone burns about 10 minutes, long enough to ignite logs directly with little tinder or kindling required. Once the wood catches fire, remove the stone and let it cool on the hearth. Replace it in the pot when it is cool, to be ready for your next fire. The brass lid has a slot for the wand to stick out. This is a neat, efficient and economical way to get your fire going. The pot is about 7" tall with the lid on. The brass wand is 13" long. The handle lets you carry it to another fireplace, or outside to light torches. Take proper safety precautions! Do NOT use gasoline or any other volatile fuels. Do not use in an existing fire. Do not put the stone in the pot while it is hot or warm.
