New exhibit at Florida Museum offers look at killer whales - N.A. - (Gainesville, FL)

The Florida Museum of Natural History’s latest exhibit, “Whale People: Protectors of the Sea,” is a unique experience featuring a more than 4,000-pound, hand-carved totem of a human riding a killer whale. A 90-foot video projection around the totem depicts these animals in the wild while artifacts from the Florida Museum’s Anthropology Division collections showcase their importance in Native American culture. Unlike most artifacts in the museum, guests are encouraged to touch the totem. The display is free for all visitors and open through May 5. The exhibit is presented in collaboration with the House of Tears Carvers of the Lummi Nation and The Natural History Museum.
