Vintage Dionne Quintuplets Carlton 1930's Silver Plated Lot/Set of 5 Spoons - $49 - (Morgantown, KY)

VINTAGE 1936 DIONNE QUINTUPLETS CARLTON SILVER PLATE 5 SPOON SET This is a lovely set of spoons remembering the Dionne Quintuplets: Annette, Betty Lou, Cecile, Yvonne, and Marie. The last two photos are in B+W since it's easier to see the detail. They were born just outside Callander, Ontario Canada on May 28, 1934 and are the first quintuplets to have survived infancy. The publicity about their birth and special status as wards of the Canadian government made them famous through the world. Between 1934 and 1943 millions of tourists visited the observation gallery to view the quintuplets in their compound (upwards of 6,000 per day). Thousands of special dolls and souvenirs were made of the quintuplets at different ages. It is said that the quintuplets brought in more than $50 million in total tourist revenue to Ontario. "Quintland" became Ontario's biggest tourist attraction of the era, surpassing the Canadian side of Niagara Falls --- rivaled only by Radio City Music Hall, Mount Vernon and Gettysburg in the U.S. Their story is quite amazing and a novel, "The Quintland Sisters" by Shelley Wood, is being published this year. Last year, in 2018, the birth of the quints was named a Canadian National Historic Event. Please check out my other listings - several collector delights await. Thank you for looking!
