Really Nice ANTIQUE 1899 FIRST EDITION of a VERY EARLY SPANISH AMERICAN WAR BOOK, "LIFE & ACHIEVEMENTS OF ADMIRAL DEWEY", w/Loads of Illustrations DESCRIPTION: Interesting antique book entitled "Life & Achievements of Admiral Dewey", 'the famous admiral and hero of Manila'. Written by Murat Halstead. Great information on the soldiers and sailors & the battles in Manila Bay, together with the thrilling accounts of the battles in the Philippines and elsewhere. A very readable, and extremely interesting contemporary history of the Span-Am War and Admiral George Dewey specifically, the greatest hero of this war AND A PHENOMINAL HERO OF THE DAY GENERALLY. This was a major event of the day and he was the man. Consists of 28 CHAPTERS covering all aspects of Dewey's Life, with obviously great emphasis on the Spanish American War and history. Loads of photographs and illustrations, over 80, including some in color. Chapters are outlined in the table of contents in great detail. Extremely interesting reading as it goes into great first hand detail, including conversations and personal anecdotes, and of course particularly nice as it is from 1899, RIGHT AT THE TIME OF THE WAR !!! Appears to be a FIRST EDITION. 452 pages, 9 1/2" x 7 1/2". Very good condition overall, including spine, binding, and pages. Super embossed colored cloth cover as shown, showing Dewey on the bridge of the ship in uniform directing the battle. Only condition defect is a slight stain at the top 1 1/2" of the cover as shown, which doesn't interfere with the picture of Dewey on the cover or any of the internal pages. This is a really nice book. It reads well and is a VERY INTERESTING, EARLY, PERIOD SPANISH AMERICAN WAR BOOK!!!AND ALL THIS IS CONTEMPORARY TO THE TIME IT HAPPENED, WRITTEN IN !!!An early first edition, PUBLISHED IN 1899.
