Very rare pre WW1 Paul Oestergaard Globe in Excellent Condition! - $2,200 - (Kenner, LA)
A very rare pre WW1 German globe by Paul Oestergaard (the later Columbus Co.). It is in excellent condition - no discoloration, no map loss. Obviously this was a wealthy family's heirloom, otherwise it would not have survived multiple world wars in this condition. The borders of the German colony of Kameroon in Africa indicate that this globe was made after the Agadir crisis in 1911, but prior to the Balkan war in 1912, as a large part of the Balkans still belongs to the Ottoman Empire. The Japanese Empire is shown with Korea and South Sakhalin. The base is a a bronze sculpture of the titan Atlas lifting the globe on his shoulders. This is a fairly large globe with a diameter of 13 Inches. Overall height from the bottom of the base to the top of the globe is approximately 22 Inches. I have not seen a similar globe in this condition in quite some time. Make it yours before it is gone. Would make a fine Christmas present for the discerning collector. The last picture shows the globe in the book "Berliner Globenhersteller 1790 - 1970" (German Globe Makers 1790 - 1970). This will be shipped in a farily large box, so I am estimating the shipping cost at $45.00 for domestic Priority Mail shipping with insurance. I will promptly refund any money if the shipping cost is less.
