31" Antique Bisque Head Composition German Kestner Alphabet M Series Child Doll - $500 - (Grove City, OH)
DESCRIPTION: This listing is for an antique German doll made by JDK Kestner 1897+ being of The Kestner Alphabet. Incised on the back of her bisque head is "M-Germany 16, 171". A letter and number always went together, she is mold "171". Measures 31" tall being a bisque socket head with strung wooden composition jointed body. Body is jointed at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, legs, and knees with all fingers intact. Doll body has original finish with a few paint touch up, scuffs, I notice paint chip on the left foot heel and a little at the knee areas. She has a good German body that displays well sitting or standing with doll stand. She has an "expressive" face with open and close blue glass sleepy eyes that work fine,painted lashes around her eyes, heavily brush stroked molded painted brown eye brows, she has open mouth with upper teeth. There is a faint little dimple in her chin and lovely rose color blush on her face. I flashed her head and do not see any chips or cracks, a good bisque. I notice a light paint rub on the left side of her head, wig seems to cover. Wears vintage auburn brown wig that slips over a plaster pate on her head, a few hairs out of place, charming but not antique like this doll. I will stuff her head for safety of her glass eyes in shipping. She wears a charming Turn of the Century vintage dress, slip, pantaloons, stockings and shoes. Her dress has a few stains, I notice a tiny rip, it could use a light cleaning. One shoe is missing a button, they do not button all the way up, a little snug.
