Gaudy Victorian Silver w/Gold Wash Brooch,Trombone Close,Emeralds,Pearls,Quartz - $230 - (Kelowna, BC)
Victorian silver brooch with emeralds, quartz and pearls that is a perfect example of gaudy and definitely will be noticed! First glance says 'crude' but look closer and it's quite well-made with small flowers and secure settings for the stones. I think it's pretty interesting overall which is why I bought it. Brooch is 1 1/8" wide, 3/4" high and weighs 13.00 grams. Emeralds are 5 mm x 5 mm and quartz is 5 mm x 3 mm. Pearls are 5 mm and appear to be baroque. So ...... tested the metal and I believe it to be a bit lower than sterling, perhaps 900. My test is not that specific so could be slightly less. Has a faint gold wash. Emeralds are not top quality with flaws and inclusions, tiny nicks and crudely cut but test as real. Quartz is a bit better cut. If there's a mark, it's well-hidden. Trombone closure which works well and overall, very good to excellent condition with age-related patina..
