Pre Columbian, Greenstone, Mounted Mezcala Figure, Pendant, L/For 300 BC 200 AD - $399 - (Edmonton, AB)
Pre Columbian. Late formative period. Mezcala culture, carved greenstone figure. Necklace, Pendant, 51 grams, 2 1/4 inches in height, 1 1/4 inches in width, 7/8 inches in depth, 3 5/8 inches mounted height. Use the carving as a pendant in a necklace or leave it mounted. The carving boasts, no repairs, contemporary chips or cracks, with four shades of green. Studying it with my microscope I found expected ancient tool marks, weathering and deposits. I believe the chip to the upper right rear of the head was done when the artisan was drilling the suspension hole. There also seems to be some ancient Central Mexican influence to the carving. All photographs were taken by the seller utilizing a Canon digital camera, and a laboratory quality AmScope 3.5 x - 180 x trinocular stereo microscope with the appropriate microscope digital camera, lighting and lenses. (I posted a photo of the microscope with my store listings). Images 1 thru 8 were taken with the Canon camera, the images depict the subject artifact, images 9 thru 12 were shot with the AmScope, the images depict magnified and highly magnified photographs of the artifact's color, and suspension hole.
