130 YEAR OLD! Grafton West VA Street Paver Brick (B&O Railroad Salvage) 1880's - $13 - (Burlington, WV)

PLEASE NOTE: The lettering on the face has been colored in with silver metallic to dress it up for display. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ANTIQUE 1880's PAVER BRICK FROM The B&O (BALTIMORE & OHIO) RAILROAD TURN-TABLE AND SHOPS THAT WERE LOCATED IN KEYSER, WEST VIRGINIA. This antique street paver type brick is about 130 years old. It was originally manufactured at Grafton, WV. The face of brick reads: GRAFTON WEST VA. It weighs about 9-1/2 lbs. and measures about 9 inches by about 3-3/4" inches. Brick shows dirt and chip wear. This brick was part of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad's shops and Round house turn-table built at Keyser, West Virginia in the mid 1880's. These bricks were used on much of those facilities. As a teenager, I personally salvaged this brick way back in the early 1970's when the B&O demolished those facilities at Keyser. The railroad still runs through Keyser but is now owned by CSX. Of note is the way the inscription reads. It reads "West VA". West Virginia used to be a part of Virginia until June 20th, 1863 when West Virginia became it's own separate state during the Civil War. That was only about 20 years before this brick was made. Before becoming a separate state, this part of Virginia was referred to as West or Western Virginia. It looks like many thought of the new state as still being part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. SHIPPING IS DISCOUNTED! I SHIP FAST!!!
