Phosphate Mining in Manatee County - N.A. - (Bradenton, FL)

What are the environmental and health impacts of the toxins released by current and past phosphate mining in Manatee County? What can be done about Piney Point, to prevent millions of gallons of hazardous waste from spilling into our waters again? Our speakers will include: Andre Mele, Suncoast Waterkeeper and Vice Chair of the Manatee-Sarasota Sierra Club; Charlie Hunsicker, Manatee County's Director of Parks and Natural Resources--the county department that monitors phosphate regulation compliance; and Jackie Barron, Public Affairs Manager for the Mosaic Company. Presentation is twelve noon to 1:00 pm. Optional buffet luncheon from 11:30 to twelve noon ($5 donation).
