ANTIQUE CHINESE DOOR OF HOPE MISSION DOLL EARLY PERIOD 19" TALL New York estate find back in 1989, rare and unique 19" tall Chinese "Door of Hope" doll. No visible wear on clothes, rip offs or other wear. It is little bit loose on base and I think need to be glued and secured for stability. Face has minor, almost invisible scratches and hair is very dry, but not falling from head. I really don't know is it real human hair or not. According to couple doll dealers in NY and Florida, hair can be from animal, probably horse tail than coated with some kind of liquid. Also, they mention this is early period of Chinese Door of Hope dolls. I can't tell you exact period or exact time, but it is true antique doll. Clothes are made from very strange, for me unknown material, looks like some sort of hard paper, or maybe some kind of plant. It is possible it's just type of textile from that era which become dry from ages. I am really not sure. One of doll experts notice doll was probably restored long time ago, according to tiny yellowish foam and paper tape around chest and waist, please check out picture #7. Shoes looks dissolved, but they are still visible. Doll is attach on wooden base apex. 7 x 7 inches and weight is close to 2LB. I am sorry but I am not expert in dolls, and I can only describe what I see, and what dealers told me.
