DARLING antique, primitive cloth doll with fine oil painted face, replaced dress - $679 - (Sparta, NJ)
This charming, 17 1/4" long, primitive type, antique homemade canvas and stuffed, sateen cloth doll is shown on page 12, Morphy's "Doll & Dollhouse" Oct. 10-11th, 2008 auction catalog hardcover book (with estimate of $1000 - $1500) and has oil painted features including beautiful blue eyes, eyelashes, brows and brown curly painted hair, sweet expression with sensitively painted nose and mouth and blushed cheeks. Her arms have mitt type hands (with stitched repairs) and her legs are straight and not very well defined. She has a few worn areas on her hands and feet that have some repairs and some in her hair (along the face seam) and faint age splits, nothing leaking. She wears an antique style, home made cotton dress with antique lace bodice. Nothing is known about her history as she was recently purchased at an auction of household goods. She has no odors or holes, no repaint or touch ups and is from a smoke free home. (loc 19) Other dolls shown are not included and each will be listed separately.
